Final Word

Iceland is truly a paradise in summer for anyone who likes to hit the road. The landscape varies from rocky hills covered with wild flowers to jagged rocks lined with moss to snow capped peaks to vast open spaces of a kind of green that you can only get from paint. The mist follows you everywhere and it lends a very mysterious aura to the whole setting. And how can you forget some of those waterfalls and the clear water that flows through them.

The country has a sense of calmness to it and wherever you go you are exposed to the true awesomeness and power of nature. It’s an experience that I will carry with me and hopefully be able to experience something like it again.

My only regret is being unable to spend a few more days to explore a few of the spots I missed on this trip.

Thank You ICELAND

Tips

  1. Water is free everywhere. Just take a bottle and ask the store or restaurant to fill it up. I drank from some of the rivers and waterfalls and it was so fresh.

  2. If you are renting a car take the unlimited wifi option. The coverage is excellent and you have internet everywhere you go, even on the hikes. So it’s better than the GPS option

  3. Carry both wind and waterproof gear always. Weather shifts in a matter of minutes

  4. There is a counter in the airport where you can take your cash and put it on a currency card. You can reload the card from your mobile phone and use it anywhere.

  5. If you are planning to drive in the Westfjords then rent a 4 x 4 vehicle

  6. Try to fill up your gas tank as often as possible, since you don't see gas stations, sometimes for miles and miles once you leave Reykjavik

  7. Since I was on the road the entire trip, I made sure to stop by the grocery stores to load up on snacks and juices.
